Born in Istanbul in 1970, Cenk Akaltun graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Screen Printing and Printing Techniques. The artist, who studied mixed techniques at Saint Martins Art And Design in London and later on painting at Camberwell College of Visual Arts, is most influenced by the subjects of creation and birth, which are treated with philosophical expansions.
Inspired by nature, the elements that animate the artist’s works, which lead people to question the changes in consciousness, consist of randomly collected pieces, the change of land forms and the nature of the material. Scenes that look like paintings when viewed from afar become three-dimensional images of curved pieces, prompting the viewer to reconsider the infinitely divided nature of the material. Akaltun’s works are based on landscapes that, although they can be examined at a macro level and perceived at a micro level, present the viewer with a dilemma between two possibilities. Reflecting the characteristics of objects or organic structures invisible to the naked eye, these landscapes create images as if filtered and give the impression that they serve scientific purposes, while highlighting the abstract textures and colors depicted by the artist and, when viewed closely, fully showing nature without any intervention.
Cenk Akaltun, who has participated in many international fairs and exhibitions, including Art Basel Miami, Art Basel Hong Kong, The Armony Show, continues his life and work in Istanbul.
