Mehmet Öğüt

An interdisciplinary artist, Mehmet Öğüt investigates the human–nature relationship through the concepts of fire, time, matter, and imperfection in his work. Reinterpreting the pyrogravure technique through an experimental approach, the artist uses the unpredictable movement of fire as both a recording surface and a space for contemplation. His works make visible the tension between control and chance, the organic and the artificial. Investigating the formal and conceptual potential of fire in his practice, the artist considers the burn marks left by fire on paper not as flaws, but as traces of existence. The tension arising between the unpredictable movement of fire and the artist's desire to guide it forms the core structure of his work. For the artist, each artwork is a state of equilibrium emerging at the intersection of control and chance. This balance is not static; it is a continuously moving, reshaping process expressed through burn marks, metallic forms, rust textures, and chemical transformations. Therefore, his works are not merely images, but records of transformation — an inevitable trace created jointly by nature and humanity.

(b. 1983, Diyarbakır) Graduating from Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Education (Painting), Öğüt completed his master's degree at the same university. In 2014–2015, he studied at the KABK Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands. He is currently pursuing his Proficiency in Art (PhD) program at Yıldız Technical University. His works are included in the collection of the Hacettepe Art Museum, and he has participated in exhibitions, performances, and video screenings in cities such as Istanbul, Vienna, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Cologne, and Diyarbakır.
